In health care settings, it can ripple outward to patients and communities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A new case study from Oregon State University highlights a collaboration between <a href=\"https:\/\/www.providence.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Providence Health &amp; Services<\/a> and OSU focused on expanding access to language training for health care providers.<\/p>\n<h2>Language training with patient care in mind<\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Oregon State online <a href=\"https:\/\/ecampus.oregonstate.edu\/online-degrees\/microcredentials\/medical-spanish\/\">Microcredential in Medical Spanish<\/a> is specifically designed for health care providers. The three-course offering covers terminology, cultural topics and medical issues commonly encountered in clinical settings.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI wanted to include the most important elements that are needed to effectively and empathically treat Spanish-speaking patients,\u201d said Laura Mulas, Oregon State Spanish instructor and former nurse.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since the microcredential launched, Mulas has received positive feedback from students.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cStudents have expressed how much they have learned and strengthened their Spanish communication skills.
